How to be more resilient from now on.
"Crashing waves overhead, I tumble through the churning waves.
The sand is kicked up on to my skin, stinging me as I tumble, as I roll, as I am dumped on to the sand below. I push my legs below my body to stand. To breathe, to gasp, to be clear of the surf once more. I am free of the chains of the strangling waves. I am free and breathe again. My lungs fill with the fresh and revitalising air above. I am safe." Lynda Kaplan 2/2016
If you too, have experienced the crashing waves when going for a swim at the beach, you can relate to just how insignificant we humans seem, in the scheme of things.
The powerful surf can make us feel like mince meat when we are unceremoniously dumped due to its powers and force. So innocent, the water seems from the shore! So inviting and tempting on a hot day! I recall the times -especially when I was a child- the attack on my small body from the dumping waves of the surf. Yet, most of us love the beach! We love the smell of the salt air, the sound of the crashing of the waves, the movement of the delicate curling crests of waves that appear like crocheted napkins flapping in the wind. The birds gliding overhead.... All this makes it so inviting: How could these same waves be so damaging to us? We all know the power of the sea. Calm one day and ferocious the next. Is that how life can appear as well? We all travel on our journey through life and experience different routes. But in my experience many of us have different hurdles that are placed in our track as we travel along through our lives. Most of us want peace and contentment. Love and happiness. Calmness over calamities . What can we control? What is out of our control? Sometimes that line is blurred. I would like to challenge the things that are out of my control. Do the best to change what is perhaps out of my control when it is not that clear. When the "waves come crashing down" on us, what can we do to be resilient? Resilience is the word that is used a lot now. I have noticed that we are told to be resilient, to be strong, to be mindful, to be grateful. In my opinion, resilience is a tougher concept to get on top of though. When presented with challenges in life, it is natural to feel angry, to feel fearful and feel sad. Even depressed.
