Why are there some things that take you longer to do, than they really should? It can be so annoying and frustrating when you know that a task should be done already but there is still a way to go? Maybe you have experienced a similar situation below?
What can you do about it? Do you have control over the situation? If you do, then you can sometimes vary what you do to make the most of a situation. eg) Standing in a line waiting for assistance? Can you do something else and return to that store later when it might be quieter?
You might find that it is a good time to review or return some of your emails. Go through your mail, Look through your diary and plan your to-do list for the week. Technology is great.
Computer on a Go-Slow? Get some technical assistance. Maybe you need to upgrade your hardware? Maybe you are on the computer at peak times where a lot of people are logged on to the internet? Time - you seem to need more of it to do simple things in my experience.
The only thing we can consider is leaving earlier to compensate for time spent in traffic. Look for alternative routes that may take you a quieter back way and save you time and frustration. You can listen to some calming music to reduce the stress that is outside of your control. Kids/Family/Meal times/Homework/stress Yep! No really simple solution, or easy answer here. I can suggest some ideas though!
Older kids doing final year studies might have less time available to help out around the home, but ensure that if they want their clothes washed, they get them into the laundry and into the appropriate basket. Get them to help the best way they can do so.
Meal times can be fun if everyone is happy to share their day in a respectful way. Turn the TV off during meal times. This is the time for you to catch up with each other. I think homework is here to stay. Kids spend a lot of time at school. Unfortunately they all get loads of homework wherever they are in the world. Whatever your philosophy on doing homework, aim to respect the school that you send your child. If your child does not do their homework, and there is a good reason, then write a note to the teacher. If the reason is that they did not want to do it, then aim to assist where you can, by encouraging them. If all else fails, then perhaps they need to talk it over with their teacher. Stay in touch with the school and teacher. Be proactive. Be supportive. Listen to them. Remember that they teach a lot of kids. They have experience. Make an appointment to see them if necessary. Bedtime Not easy when kids are different ages. They seem to feel they are missing out on everything when you say the word, bedtime. Tired kids can be cranky kids. And so can their parents. The end of the day is often one of the most trying times for families. Aim to get your kids to slow down before bed. Being on technology before bed has been shown to be disruptive for sleeping. There are a lot of professionals that have useful material on this subject. So take a look if you need further assistance. Get the kids' clothes ready for the next day. This helps to reduce the last-minute panics. Label their clothes. Stress is talked about everywhere. We all could use a little relief and help here. Areas within your control: Have a workable plan, and a way around things if delayed. Areas out of your control: The weather, traffic, sick kids, you are unwell. Do your best with the situation at hand. Get help from family, a friend, or consider paid help. Ask for professional help if you need some assistance. It is better to ask for help than continuing to feel more helpless and hopeless. Help is at hand.
Be on the look out for easier ways to do things.
