Mindful - A word used so often now that we don't really stop to think about the meaning any more?
"Be. In the moment. Now". But how? Being mindful is easier if you remind yourself to listen to what is around you at this very moment. Stop. Look up from your laptop or mobile device. What is around you? Your room? Notice the colours of the walls, the floor, the furniture. It can help make you feel more present. Are you outside? See the trees around you. The insects to the tall trees. The scale is vast and amazing to see. Is mindfulness just another thing to do It is so easy to get caught up in the day. So many things to get done. But a moment here and a moment there can make all the difference to your overall day. It can then feel like you lived today rather than just go through all the things on your list which can seem endless! (to me at least). Sounds and smells can remind you of things too. Mowed grass, sweet smells of spring flowers, the freshness of the moment after rain. The spray of your favourite perfume. All help to make you feel present. How else can you feel present? -Listening to music is a great one. You can choose your mood. For example, this morning was Monday and I chose to listen to some upliftine music to get me going for the start of my week. By dinner time, I sometimes choose music to relax with a chilled-out vibe instead. -Do you ever cook dinner with music playing in the background? I found lately that it helps me. I stay more present to the task at hand, and I enjoy preparing my evening meal. Playing music might help you too? - Calling a friend when you find it hard to cope with frustrations or difficulties can help you feel more connected and less isolated. It can also help bring you into the present time which is helpful for reducing your anxiety about the future if that is a concern for you too. -Relax with something that you find soothing. Perhaps reading, or having a warm shower can help bring you relief from the day's stresses. Be present when you enjoy your chosen activity. -There are so many distractions in our days that it can be a challenge to be in the moment. To be Mindful. Stay calm and be in the moment now. Enjoy the feeling for one minute if you can do so. Take a breath. Relax, and remind yourself how wonderful it feels to be here and now. In the place and position you are in this minute. Being mindful is a statement. Bring mindfulness into your world today, by just being in the moment each day. It is a wonderful feeling. Share the idea with your friends and family. Here's to the concept of mindfulness. Enjoy your moment now.
