It is interesting how many people seem to live just for their weekends. How frustrating it must be to have to go through the whole week waiting for two days to enjoy oneself? Is our culture so ingrained with the 2-days off work that we cannot enjoy the time that exists in between? If work is undesirable -so much that one talks only of the weekend- would that be an indication that perhaps that person need to find more rewarding work?
Or is it a habit to just talk about how many days till the weekend rolls around? Life - and time - has a tendency to run away. We get to our annual holidays and we know that we have been working hard. We feel tired. We feel we want more holidays and more time to do whatever we want. But there are usually things that need to be done, and responsibilities that cannot take vacations whenever we want them to. Would it be better if we could meet each day with the delight that we feel at the weekend? How? Perhaps one can greet each day with the view that you are looking forward to finding something new or refreshing about that day. You might discover a new way to work. Or try something new for lunch. Yes, it can be that mundane and simple. Why? Because when we look at the simple things in our life, we find that quite often they make up the things that bring us happiness. Noticing a simple sunset as you drive home can help you to feel amazing. But you need to be on the look out for these events that occur naturally around you every day. Give it a go. See the little things around you and the wonder that makes up our world. Our surroundings have such an abundance of things to bring new awareness and joy. Nature, animals, and people. Perhaps you will find that you are not rushing through your week, and that your weekends can come around when they do. Instead of just wishing your week away- until that magical Saturday arrives, you can enjoy each day and night for what that day has to offer you? Not every weekend is fantastic! Not every weekday is amazing either. But looking around for something wonderful to notice in your day, will help to make each day of your week that much more enjoyable and rewarding for yourself. Weekends are to be enjoyed, but so are your weekdays. Make the most of each day. Lynda Kaplan Author, Loving Me
